Here's a picture from our latest boat ride on Casco Bay. This perfect little gazebo-type house sits on its own rock off Bustin's Island. At its left, you can see a windmill, giving the house its own source of power. The red item just to the right of the stairs is a shiny new grill.
I want to rave about how beautiful these days are for being out on the water or in the garden or just looking out the window. I search and search for words to convey the sharp edges of sails or trees against the deeper blue of fall skies, the way distant shapes seem closer in the clear air. But I've learned from Amy's wise and striking weblog, over at http://everyday.blogs.com/humble/, that beauty speaks (or shouts!) for itself. There's nothing we can add (although she comes close). Amy quotes Somerset Maugham, who puts it succinctly: Beauty is an ecstasy; it is as simple as hunger. There is really nothing to be said about it. It is like the perfume of a rose: you can smell it and that is all.
It all looks and sounds just so perfect. Alas, summer days are fast departing from us now. Sorry - I've not visited for a while but have just learned how to subscribe to your rss feed so will be reading regularly through my mail program. Kind regards, Tom

I think the perfect way to convey the beauty you saw is just what you did - taking a gorgeous photo and displaying it in plenty of pixels. Blogs are such a terrific way to show photography.

Would anyone recall a man and a woman (personal friends) that had a cottage on Bustins Is. maybe about 15 years ago. They had it for many years. They had a large cat named Coolidge. I would love to visit Bustins Is. and see his cottage. He just passed away in April and I told him I would go there for him. Thank you.

I would like to thank Jim and Robbie boone and Mary Lee Fowler for all their help in locating the cottage on Bustins that belonged to my friend Hartley Erickson. Today his old friend Ellwood Shields met us at the dock and walked with us to Eldemido to show us where the cottage was. We placed Hartley's ashes at the water's edge at 3:30pm. He is now back where he always wanted to be....Bustins Island, the place he loved the most. A happy ending indeed. Thank you again. Shirley Durfee

Julius, there are a few cottages on the Island that have been owned by families with the name of Adams. Can you be anymore specific about the names or type of cottage.

Hi everyone, fantastic picture it looks beautiful. I am from England but would love to visit some day. I wonder if any islanders or people who know could tell me where the name "Bustins Island" originates from. Its actually my surname and is very rare in the UK. Perhaps some of you could shed some light on the origin for me. Thanking you all in advance.
